Our vision:
To become a high performing school that provides relevant and meaningful learning opportunities for students.
To stand out as a school that maintains high expectations and accountability for learners while preparing each student to value education as a way of life.
Committed to the district’s vision that all students should be prepared to lead a rich and productive life, Hawthorne High is a Specialty School of Choice created to help students who come from the traditional school setting. Hawthorne is a school of choice that was founded as a component of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system’s commitment to student retention and overall academic success.
Hawthorne High School was established with a vision that all students have academic potential and when provided a nurturing and challenging academic environment, each can achieve success. Hawthorne’s differentiated curriculum allows students a multitude of pathways to accomplish their ultimate high school and post high school goals. Embraced by highly qualified teachers and support staff, students are challenged to maximize their academic, social, and emotional potential. Hawthorne students are given the necessary tools to cope within and outside the classroom --- ensuring the whole child is educated.
Hawthorne differentiated curriculum offerings:
-
The Day Program, for grades 9-12, provides flexible scheduling and smaller classes that allow teachers to work directly with students while personalizing the learning experience.
-
TAPS (Teenage Parent Services) provides a safe environment where students in grades 6-12 pursue academic growth while receiving support to ensure a healthy pregnancy. TAPS offers temporary on-site child care (first-come, first-served basis for our TAPS students only), homebound teacher visits, and individual and group counseling.
-
Day Mastery Program provides an opportunity for day students to earn additional credits through Mastery Learning.
-
Transitional 9 Program is a 9th grade transitional, drop-out prevention initiative that serves students throughout CMS. We provide remedial instruction to underachieving students to ensure their readiness for the high school experience.
-
The Concurrent Evening Program operates from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Students from other CMS schools earn credits toward graduation requirements. Seniors are given priority in course registration.
Hawthorne is committed to meeting the growing needs of our student population and continues to explore additional diversified learning opportunities. Contact the school for additional information at 980-343-6011.
