Thank you for visiting the Hawk Ridge Elementary website. I and my staff are extremely proud of the opportunities that we provide our students with every day.
Our composite score on the 2013-2014 NC End-of-Grade tests was 88 percent proficient. With this percentage Hawk Ridge Elementary was given the North Carolina letter grade of A for the 2013-2014 school year. Only 3 percent of North Carolina Elementary Schools achieved an A rating. In February of 2015, Hawk Ridge Elementary was featured in TheBestSchools.org 50 Best American Elementary Schools with the #9 overall ranking http://www.thebestschools.org/features/50-best-american-public-elementary-schools/
The Hawk Ridge Faculty is dedicated to our students and works to do whatever it takes to ensure individual student success. Every day, our teachers depend on pre-assessment and formative assessment data to determine Personalized Instruction within each objective or reading behavior. Hawk Ridge is a tech rich environment with 11 or more devices per classroom as well as a BYOT program. Our instructional assistants work throughout the building teaching small groups to support both the learners who are in need and students needing enrichment. We currently have 49 certified staff, including administrative personnel. Of those, 42 percent are National Board-certified, 46 percent have master’s degrees and all are highly qualified professional educators.
Our students enjoy the opportunity to be in one of our various school and parent sponsored clubs such as Drama Club, Student Council, Media, Girls on the Run, Garden Club, Chorus, and Safety Patrol. Our students also experience Genius Hour every day as the opening activity. Genius Hour comes from 20 percent time that Google gives its employees to innovate within their own passions in hopes that at some point it will benefit the company. Google 20 percent time has yielded innovations such as Gmail and Google Maps. See our Personalized Learning page to see some of our students Genius Hour Innovations. Hawk Ridge 4th and 5th Grade students have the opportunity to take instrumentation lessons during school hours. Development in clarinet, flute, trumpet, trombone, piano, and guitar are offered.
The Hawk Ridge community is very supportive of the school. The PTA and School Leadership Team work with the staff to make Hawk Ridge a holistic learning environment. This year, the parent community and the PTA raised over $21,000 to redesign our 37 K-5 classrooms. Students worked during Genius Hour to propose furniture and organizational solutions to encourage collaboration and comfortable learning areas to support Personalized Learning. The Hawk Ridge PTA also contributed $10,000 in Professional Development (Literacy and Personalized Learning) during the 2014-2015 school year. Hawk Ridge Volunteers generally log over 8,000 volunteer hours a year which is among the highest in CMS.
As we continue to refine our successful initiatives, we look forward to inspiring the possibilities for our school community.
