I am honored to have been selected as the new principal of Elon Park Elementary. The staff, students and parents have an outstanding reputation of hard work and excellence and I am excited to partner with you on this journey. I grew up in Charlotte and attended CMS schools, graduating from Independence High School. My family is still in Charlotte and even my in-laws are in the area part of the time so I often enjoy time with family. I've been married to my husband, Trevor, for 13 years. We have five year old girl/boy twins, who will finish their kindergarten year at Beverly Woods. In my spare time between work, being mommy to busy five year olds, learning in the ins and outs of school from the parent perspective, I enjoy reading, running, cooking and eating! I am active with my family - soccer, dance, riding bikes, kayaking and paddle boarding in the summer. I can often be found at the Morrison Y at 5 am or running down Rea Road on a sunny day!
I always loved school, but there was one very special teacher, my fifth grade teacher, who inspired me and set me on my journey to become an educator. So many things about her and many other talented teachers along the way have influenced the way I lead in the classroom and beyond.
I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University, where I met my husband. I returned home to Charlotte and started teaching fifth grade at Albemarle Road Elementary, the same school I attended. I had the privilege of opening Endhaven Elementary as a fourth grade teacher then becoming the literacy facilitator. Nothing bonds teachers or a community like the opening of a new school. It was a special experience and remember distinctly the growth in this area as Ballantyne, Elon and then Polo Ridge all opened.
While serving Endhaven as their literacy facilitator I was accepted into the first cohort Leaders for Tomorrow program through Winthrop University earning my degree in Educational Leadership (alongside Chuck Fortuna!). In 2012, I joined the talented staff at Beverly Woods Elementary. Working at Beverly Woods was a pleasure every day. I loved the school and community. My time at BWE and every lesson on the way has prepared me to step into the role of Principal at Elon Park. I have been impressed with the quality of instruction and talented teachers during my previous visits at Elon Park. My classroom visits this week have continued to solidify this impression. Everyone has been so welcoming. I am excited to now be able to call Elon Park my school home.
I am proud and honored to be serving Elon Park Elementary and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. It's always a great day to be an Eagle!
