Welcome Elizabeth Traditional families and visitors to our website. I am excited about the 2017-2018 school year and looking forward to working with new and established families. I have been at this amazing school for 13 years, and am honored to call ETES my home away from home!
I grew up in a small town in North Carolina and graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a concentration in middle school language arts and social studies. I began my teaching career in Norfolk, Virginia. While in Norfolk, I taught fourth and fifth grades. When I returned to Charlotte to be closer to my family, I continued to teach upper elementary grades. After 12 years of teaching experience, I decided to return to school to earn a Master's degree in School Administration at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Next, I began working as an assistant principal at Shamrock Gardens and ETES before being named principal here.
My husband and I have a daughter who is currently a freshman in high school. We enjoy traveling together, going to the beach with family and taking care of two very energetic dogs! We are also big fans of the Carolina Panthers!
Elizabeth Traditional Elementary was established as one of Charlotte's first elementary schools in the year 1912. The school's building structures, name, and curriculum have been altered over the years to meet the various demands of a diverse and ever-shifting population. Elizabeth has an active partnership with Central Piedmont Community College, the Augustine Project, Queens University and many local businesses in the Elizabeth community. We offer a variety of learning and leadership opportunities during the school day and through our before and after school activities including chess club, Mad Science, Odyssey of the Mind, soccer clubs, golf clubs, Girls on the Run, and Let Me Run.
Elizabeth Traditional is implementing its fourth year of the Leader in Me program. This magnet theme enhancement incorporates Stephen Covey's "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" in the K-5 curriculum. Students experience academic goal setting and a learn leadership skills through our Leader in Me curriculum. We have been recognized as a Magnet School of Excellence by the Magnet Schools of America the last two years, and we are excited about becoming a Lighthouse School in the next year.
Currently, the school serves approximately 525 students. At the end of the 2017 school year, our students tested 66% proficient in reading and 71.3% proficient in math as measured by the North Carolina End of Grade Test. Our school also met 100% of our AMO (Annual Measureable Outcome) goals. One hundred percent of our teachers are fully certified with 90% of our teachers having five or more years of experience (and many have also achieved National Board Certification).
Again, I am looking forward to a great school year. Please visit our Facebook page and our PTA website for updates throughout the school year!
