“Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue.”
Robert Scotland, Jr
My name is Robert Scotland, Jr. and I currently teach music at Eastover Elementary School. I've been married to Lucy Scotland for three years and we have a dog,Steinway. I was raised in Greenwood, South Carolina, which is a small town in the Upper Savannah Region of South Carolina wi th a population of around 23,000 people. I started playing the piano when I was eight, and music quickly became a large part of my life. After graduating from Denmark-Olar High School in Denmark, South Carolina, I attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, majoring in Music Education.
Education has always been important to our family. My parents also work in Education. While at Morgan State, I was active with the Concert Choir and we performed extensively. Performing wi th the choir, I visited three countries and over 15 states singing all genres of music. Prior to teaching at Eastover, I taught Music in Kershaw Count y, South Carolina for eight years. In my spare time, I enjoy assembling model cars, mountain biking, playing tennis, and listening to vinyl records.
My fondest memory of a teacher as a child is my 6th Grade Science at Cambridge Academy, Mr. Bradford. Mr. Bradford would design educational scavenger hunts that allowed us to navigate through the woods near the school looking for clues related to the lesson. The scavenger hunts were both informative and a lot of fun!
