Academy of Engineering travels to a STEM Event at ZMax Speedway in Concord, NC
East Mecklenburg is one of five High Schools in North Carolina that qualified for and launched an Academy of Engineering program. Over 20 Students were accepted into the program which began in the Fall of 2011. The program has been carefully designed to introduce students to a wide variety of engineering principles PLTW classes for the program including Introduction of Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Civil Engineering & Architecture, Biotechnical Engineering, and Engineering Design and Development are four foundation classes.
PLTW Academy of Engineering PLTW Courses:
- 9th Introduction to Engineering Design—Biology
- 10th Principles of Engineering—Physics
- 11th Civil Engineering and Architecture— AP Environmental Science
- 12th Digital Electronics
EM Academy of Engineering Environmental (AOE)
The AOE addresses the future need for engineers in this country by educating high school studentsin the principles of engineering. Honors courses include Introduction to Engineering & Design,Principles of Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture and Digital Electronics. Students have the opportunity for college credit and two quality points in PLTW Engineering classes. (NAF.org and pltw.org)
The student experiences will involve four years of a curriculum which integrates Science, Social Studies, Technology. Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), including work-based learning.
