AR will begin in the second quarter at Dilworth! Students in grades 2-5 will be introduced to AR in the first week of November.
-
Students take the STAR Reader diagnostic test to determine their reading range or (ZPD - Zone of Proximal Development).
-
They will be allowed to check out two books from the Media Center: one from their reading range, while the other can be any book that they would like.
-
AR quizzes may be taken in the Media Center or the Computer Lab before school, during their Media time or while in the Computer Lab (and have permission to do so), or in their classroom as their teacher allows.
-
Students earn points based on the number of correct answers on the quiz and they record their percentage and points earned on their reading log.
-
Point goals are set individually by the teacher based on the student's reading level and 30 minutes of daily reading, with the goal then being to meet 100% of their point goal and have a test average of 85% or higher by reading books within their reading range.
-
Failed quizzes may not be retaken and even passed quizzes can never be retaken, even from one grade to the next.
-
AR is not a competition of points and therefore, students should not race through a book just to take a test and receive points.
-
Goals will be celebrated within the classrooms and on the school level, but the primary goal of AR is for students to read interesting books at the level of difficulty that is right for each of them as individuals.
-
Please see the AR list above for specific titles or your students can locate them in the Media Center.
