BYOT at Cochrane Collegiate Academy
Cochrane Collegiate Academy is starting a new initiative to increase student engagement in our classrooms called BYOT. BYOT stands for bring your own technology.
For purposes of BYOT, "Technology" means personal owned wireless portable electronic equipment used for instructional purposes. All approved devices must allow access to the Internet through a fully functional web browser and be capable of accessing the Cochrane Collegiate Academy guest network. Approved devices at this time include; smartphones, iPads, iPods, laptops, netbooks, tablet computers, and eReaders that meet the definition of technology.
All internet access shall occur using the Cochrane guest network. Cellular network adapters are not permitted to be used by students to have the access the Internet at any time.
Responsibility to keep privately owned devices secure rests with the individual owner. The Charlotte Mecklenburg School System, nor its staff or employees, is not responsible for any device stolen or damaged on campus.
The use of personal technology to provide educational material is not a necessity but a privilege. A student does not have the right to use his or her laptop, cell phone or other electronic device while at school. When abused, privileges will be taken away. When respected, privileges will benefit the learning environment.
Our school policies and procedures for student technology will remain the same with this initiative. Middle School students are not permitted to use technology on campus without explicit instruction from a teacher for the purposes of classroom instruction.
Please support this program by talking to your child about safe and appropriate use of technology. We believe that this initiative will increase student achievement and give them a ‘real-world’ experience in the classroom.
Thank you for your support. If you have any questions about this initiative please contact Mrs. Leighty at 980-343-6460 or e-mail her at email@example.com.
