What is Personalized Digital Learning, or PDL?
CMS' vision of Personalized Learning is:
"Personalized Learning in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools aims to develop the whole child and empower them to take
ownership of their learning by providing them with multiple pathways to demonstrate mastery learning in order to be successful and productive 21st century citizens in an ever-changing world."

PDL at Barnette
At Barnette, PDL is evident throughout the building. Students have flexible seating options, such as standing desks, yoga balls, comfy seating, sitting alone, or sitting with a group. This ensures students are comfortable when they are working, which increases their engagement and attentiveness.
Students are also able to have a voice and choice in the classroom. They are given various pathways that
help them showcase their level of mastery in a way that best suites them. Along with this choice, students are tracking their data so they have a solid grasp on where they are as learners. This also influences the academic choices they
make in class.
Teachers are working hard to tailor their instruction to meet the needs of each learner. We are also including authentic, real world tasks into our classrooms so students can make connections to their learning and life outside of the classroom.
PDL Learner Profiles
To help students be successful in their PDL journey, we teach them about the PDL learner profiles. The Personalized
Learner Profiles encompass the essential skills of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication and entrepreneurship.
Here is where we need help:
Parents, do you have old chairs, tables, bean bag chairs, carpet, etc, that you no longer want? Have you seen old furniture in gently used condition within your neighbor that others are trying to get rid of? Then we have the donation center for you! As part of our Personalized Learning process, our teachers are always looking for ways to ensure a "personalized" learning classroom. One that meets every students' needs in terms of comfort, engagement, and individualized needs. As part of this process, many of our teachers would love to have some of the above mentioned items to ensure that their classroom is set up to achieve these goals. Therefore, we invite you to check this site from time to time to see what some of our teachers would love to have. If you happen to have a gently used item that no longer is of need and fits one of our teachers descriptions, please email them to make them aware, and see if they are still in need of this item. As always, we thank you for your strong support, and truly ensure that Barnette is the B.E.S.T school possible.
