Recycling Makes "Cents"
Bobcats are going green! At Bain Elementary, we are participating in a number of recycling programs. Some of these programs benefit Bain financially, others promote community service. All of the programs, however, benefit the Earth.
Mrs. Vizzini is our Recycling Coordinator and leads our TerraCycle team. She is ALWAYS in need of volunteers to help with collecting, sorting and packaging these items. Please email Ms. Vizzini (opens in new window) if you are able to help.
TerraCycle Recycling Programs
This company makes hundreds of products, such as backpacks, pencil cases, and folders for major retailers from trash that has been saved from landfills. Bain participates in several "brigades" to collect various items and send them to TerraCycle. In return, Bain is paid $.02 for each unit that we send. Since September 2009 we have raised $9,948.82 from the TerraCycle program.
Juice Pouch Brigade: Collects juice pouches, such as Capri Sun. There is a large container in the cafeteria where these are being collected. Straws may now remain with the pouch but please make sure the pouch is completely empty of juice. As of 1/22/2016 Bain has collected 274,552 pouches and earned $6,626.68.
Writing Instruments Brigade: Collects any brand markers (including Crayola) as well as highlighters and pens. These are being collected first in the classrooms and then placed in red bins on the 1st floor. As of 1/22/2016 Bain has collected 16,812 writing instruments and earned $506.40.
Energy Bar Brigade: Collects any size wrappers for Energy Bars, Granola Bars, Nutri-Grain Bars (of any brand). These are being collected in the cafeteria at lunch. Please ensure that the wrappers are empty of crumbs. As of 1/22/2016 Bain has collected 57,051 wrappers and earned $696.43.
Tom's Natural Care Brigade: Collects empty toothpaste tubes, mouthwash bottles and caps, dental floss containers, and old toothbrushes.
Other Recycling Collections at Bain
Pop Tops:In conjunction with the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte, Bain is collecting aluminum pop tops from beverage cans. The funds raised by recycling the pop tops go to support the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte. Pop tops can be dropped off in the red collection containers on the 1st floor.
Bottles, Cans and Paper: Bain is environmentally conscious. We have multiple recycle bins all over school to recycle our beverage bottles and cans as well as our paper products.
Bain is no longer collecting plastic caps! These can now be left on bottles/containers and placed in your curbside recycling container at home!
