At Allenbrook Elementary School one of our many school wide goals is to create a positive environment for our kids to learn. One of the ways in which we do this is through our school wide behavior program called
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS).
The goal of PBIS is to create a positive learning environment where appropriate behaviors are rewarded in order to increase academic achievement and instructional time. All of the students in the beginning of the year were taught that our individual, class wide and school wide goal is to be
“Respectful, Responsible, and Quality Learners”.
This is achieved through the use of the
4 A’s of Allenbrook”.
These A’s include: attitude, achievement, appearance, and attendance.
Is coming to school each day with a positive attitude, ready to learn.
Is achieving all of the goals set forth for us academically, behaviorally, and socially.
- Appearance -
Is coming to school in our uniform, which includes a white collared shirt and blue bottoms. Our shirts should be tucked in at all times. This helps us look professional, since we are “professional students”.
- Attendance -
Is coming to school every day. We need to do this in order to do our job, which is being a “professional student”. We have a school wide “Perfect Attendance” program in which incentives are given to classes who have met their “Perfect Attendance” goals. We will also honor all students quarterly who have not missed any school during that time.
Through PBIS there are also classroom behavior plans to explain the expectations of that teacher, along with our school wide expectations. When those expectations are being met, either a student or a class can earn Viking Pride cards from another staff member who catches that student or class doing the right thing.
The class then needs to meet a quarterly goal of collecting a certain amount of Viking Pride cards. If they meet that goal they will be invited to a quarterly party which celebrates the meeting of their class’s accomplishment.
These are just some of the great school programs involved with PBIS. Please look for updates and tips regarding PBIS.
