Moments With Modine
I hope you are staying warm during this crazy weather! We have had two-hour delays, early dismissal, and a school cancellation. The make-up day for the snow day on January 29th will be Tuesday, February 18th. All students will report to school that day.
EARLY DISMISSAL...We would appreciate your help with early dismissal days. We cannot put students on a bus to go home for early dismissal until we confirm that someone will be home to meet your child. If the weather looks like we might have an early dismissal, be sure to email your child's teacher to verify how your student will get home. This will help us avoid making excessive phone calls. If you are not receiving phone calls from our automated system, please email your correct phone number to me directly so that I can check it with our phone system.
MORNING ARRIVAL TIME...Please remember that students are not allowed to enter school until the 7:15am bell. We have had an increase lately in the number of students entering the building before the bell. Teachers and staff are not on duty until 7:15am. If students enter the building before this time, it creates an unsafe situation for your child. Please remember this as you bring students to school in the morning.
VISITORS TO SCHOOL...Please remember to use the Lobby Guard system when visiting school. You will need to scan your driver's license to sign in. If you or someone else is picking up your child from school, be sure to have a picture ID ready so that we can verify who is picking up students. We want to make sure our students are safe.
INTERVENTION AND ENRICHMENT...The staff is working to provide for the needs of all students at McAlpine. If students are not meeting grade-level expectations, we are working with them in small groups. If students are working at or above grade level, teachers are working with the TD teacher to plan lessons and activities to challenge them. During literacy, students are reading books that are appropriate for their needs. This ensures that all students are growing in reading comprehension. If you have questions about your student's progress, be sure to contact your child's teacher. You are our partners in your child's success.
READ TO ACHIEVE...As many of you know, the state legislature passed Read To Achieve legislation over the summer. This new law impacts third grade students. Additional information will be sent home for all third grade parents regarding the portfolio process and how students can demonstrate reading proficiency. For more information on Read to Achieve, refer to the fact sheet on the McAlpine PTA website.
I appreciate your support throughout this school year. As always, if you have concerns be sure to let me know. We can only improve by working together to make McAlpine Elementary the best that it can be!
