Moments With Modine
It is hard to believe that we only have a few days left of school. We have watched our Eagles soar this year, and we are thankful that you choose to trust us with your child. Next year will bring more learning, challenges, and opportunities...and we are excited that you are part of the McAlpine family.
Summer at McAlpine
For the months of June and August, McAlpine will be open during regular school hours. Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Selby and I will be on campus during this time. From July 7-August 1, McAlpine will not be open on Fridays. The school will be open Monday through Thursday. The office will be open for registration from 9:00am-2:00pm during this time. Mrs. Selby and I will be "holding down the fort." Please call ahead of time to make an appointment. The front door will be locked at all times. Visitors will use the buzzer system to gain access to the building.
Missing Books and Fees Owed to the School
We currently have over 150 books that have not been returned to the library. Many teachers also have books missing from their classroom libraries. Be sure to search "high and low" for any library books that might be playing hide-and-go-seek! We would rather have the books than the money! Students also owe cafeteria fees and money for lost textbooks. We will not be sending home report cards on the last day of school if students still owe fines. Parents may pick up report cards during summer school hours. If you owe fees and have special circumstances, please contact our Financial Secretary Mrs. Selby (firstname.lastname@example.org), Mrs. Lockso in the Media Center (email@example.com) or Mr. Martin in the cafeteria (firstname.lastname@example.org).
If you haven't already, please turn in your parent input letter. We will be using this information when placing students in classes next year. Although we cannot accommodate specific teacher requests, we will do everything we can to place your child where he/she will flourish.
We are relocating a few classrooms next year. Kindergarten is moving to the C hallway with first grade and classes for students with Autism. Pre-K and drive-in speech classes will be in the A hallway next year. The B hallway will house second and third grade, and the D hallway will have fourth grade, fifth grade, ESL, TD, and EC. If you have packing boxes to share, our Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers would love them! Also, if you have packing time to share...contact the front office! We appreciate your assistance.
We will continue our house approach next year with Fadhila, Hashiki, Heshima, and Ruya. Students and staff will remain with their current families. New students will become part of our houses as they join the McAlpine family. If you have ideas about activities for house meetings, please share them with Mrs. Isamat (email@example.com) and Ms. Young (firstname.lastname@example.org).
School security will continue to be a top priority. The front doors to McAlpine will be locked at all times. Visitors must be "buzzed" in to gain access. Procedures will be developed to ensure that students and visitors are safe at all times. Visitors will continue to use the Lobby Guard system when visiting McAlpine...so have your drivers' license ready and smile for the camera!
The School Safety Committee has shared ideas about improving carpool, arrival and dismissal procedures, the buzzer system, early dismissal from school, and transportation changes that occur throughout the day. Our findings will be shared with the School Leadership Team. Procedures will be outlined in the McAlpine Parent Handbook which will be sent home at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year. If you have suggestions, please email Mrs. Rayson (email@example.com).
Parents play an important part in our success. Please join the PTA and become a volunteer. Together we will continue to see McAlpine soar! Enjoy your summer, and don't forget to read, read, read!
